A combined effort from NZ Defence Force and NGO's all over New Zealand brought relief to the residents of Kaikoura affected by the quake.
RSAs in the Canterbury and Nelson-Marlborough-West Coast districts have joined forces to support Kaikoura residents in the wake of November’s devastating 7.8 earthquake.
Although access to the area was heavily restricted due to damaged roads, bridges and infrastructure, the RSAs persevered, delivering food vouchers and personal letters to every RSA member in Kaikoura.
“This is just one example of the kind of support RSAs provide,” says BJ Clark, RSA National President.
“You don’t have to be a service person to receive assistance, although supporting past and present service personnel and their families is our main focus – helping others in general is at the heart of what we do.”
Eddie Bassett, RSA District Support Advisor for Canterbury, says he is pleased to report the gifts have been very well received by the Kaikoura community. “Thank you letters and phone calls are still coming in,” he says.
“I’d also like to take this opportunity to thank Nestle and Couplands Bakery for their sponsorship and for getting behind this project.”
